Janelle Renee Dunn

Originally from Duncan, South Carolina; I received my MFA in Acting from the University of Louisville, and a BA in Theatre from Berea College. Diving into professional theatre, brought me to Actors Theatre of Louisville, where I've spent the past 3 years, as a Learning and Community Engagement Associate. A dedicated Producer, Director, and Actor -- I've performed in numerous shows including the children’s touring show, Kylie for President (Drama by George), Kiss of the Spiderwoman (Pandora Productions), Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill (Bunbury Theatre), Click Clack Moo (StageOne Children's Theatre) and Nobody Bunny (Theatre 502). I've produced productions including, King Hedley II (Smoked Apple Theatre), Oh Lord! Mama Done Burnt the Biscuits (Smoked Apple), and A Raisin in the Sun (Smoked Apple). Lastly, my work as a director includes, 9 to 5 (FaithWorks Studios), Kids Say the Dardnest Things (Actors Theatre), and Topdog/Underdog (Berea College). As the founder and festival producer of Ain't I a Woman Playfest -- a theatre festival that celebrates the work of Women of color playwrights-- I will always strive to bring marginalized voices to light through theatre and creative storytelling.
