My name is Victoria Pizzarelli and I am a photographer from Long Island, NY. I am studying for my BFA at the University of Harford Art School and planning to get my MA in art education. I always knew she wanted to be an art teacher, as I was inspired by my mother who teaches elementary art. I have been drawing since I was a child but found that my perfectionism got in the way of enjoying it. In middle school, I picked up a camera for the first time and felt instant tranquility. A camera is mechanical and has a structure that drawing doesn’t have. I enjoy the process of taking and processing photos in both digital and film. Photography is my mental vacation, it helps me get away from the worries of the world. I want to help kids find their own creative outlet just as finding photography did for me.
My photography is mostly about the process of taking photos. Photography is my tranquility and that translates into my work. I shoot a variety of subjects, such as portraits, cars, and architecture although my main focus is landscapes. I show the beauty and peacefulness of the environment through the stillness of the mountains, the movement in the waves, or the serenity of flowers. Capturing moments on my camera always happens spontaneously. There is no pre-meditation, I will be inspired by something I see or wait for the moment to feel right. My digital photos are taken on a Canon Rebel T6i and I then export my photos onto my computer to edit in Lightroom. I use a Pentax to shoot my 35mm film in both color and black and white. I develop the film in a tank and print them in the darkroom on 8x10 paper. I always ensure my prints have warm vivid colors or rich shadows in black and white.
