Tank The Artist
Behind the brush
Tank (25) was born in Shreveport, Louisiana in the Stoner Hill area. "Most would consider it the Hood, but I considered it home...one turn in any direction and I was surrounded by family." As a young child Tank was surrounded by creatives from her late uncle Kevin D.Higgins making signs and painting for local churches to her mother and father who would often draw and push her to explore her creative ability whether it be though literature, visual, or performing arts.
Tank would later go on to graduate high school and enlist in the United States Army. While enlisted the need for self-expressions and creativity was nonexistent and the love to create would not return for six years. While serving Tank experienced postpartum depression while having her first son with her husband Jay. They would soon discover their first-born baby boy was autistic. While suffering from depression the calling to express and escape from the what can become mundane and sometimes overwhelming task of life started to weigh down on her.
It was only through suffering a mental break that the flame to create would be reignited. '' There I was sitting in a white room with no-one or nothing that was familiar … then I saw it, a stack of coloring books, and a pack of crayons so I colored."
It was only through trial and tribulation that Tank would find her peace, not only did painting help her it also helped her son Neeko. Neeko enjoys watching his mother paint and even participates with some of her artwork. Today Tank is now the mother of two beautiful boys Neeko and Faro with her loving husband Jay. Tank is still enlisted and currently continuing her education in Applied Science at LSUS.
