I am a former CT resident and native. I am sharing this call to all artists in the area for their creative writing, visual art, film shorts/animations/or audio as long as it brings together food, memory, and storytelling in some way. My National Arts Strategies Fellowship project focused on 'Foodstories: Intersections of Food, Memory and Identity,' has been collecting stories from individuals across the U.S. (many of which are from within New England). It is now time for the next phase inviting artists to share their work which will be featured on a 2 - Year digital website/exhibition space.
Here is a little bit more to know about me. You can also visit my website at Shantalee.com:
Shanta Lee is an award-winning visual artist, writer across genres, author, and public intellectual who often says she is a “…practitioner of entanglement” for all of the ways she brings things together in her work. Author of several poetry and hybrid collections and chapbooks, she is the winner of the New England Poetry Club’s Grant for Poetic Achievement, Abel Meeropol Social Justice Writing Award, and a 2024 National Arts Strategies Creative Community Fellow (New England), her work has been widely featured in Harper’s Magazine, The Massachusetts Review, ITERANT Literary Magazine, Palette Poetry, Prism, Ms. Magazine, and DAME Magazine, and elsewhere. Her second full collection, Black Metamorphoses (Etruscan Press) is what she describes as a 2000+ year old interrogation, interpretation, and conversation with Ovid's Metamorphoses. Another aspect of this conversation which has been explored in Shanta Lee's study guide for the Poetry Foundation, "Metamorphoses: “Erysichthon” by Ovid and “Erysichthon’s Seed” by Shanta Lee Race, Class, Gender, and the Imperial Body." She is the co-editor of Sign & Breath: Voice and the Literary Tradition (Etruscan Press), an anthology that asked several national artists and writers to choose “the page that sings” from any genre out this August.
