Rick Soileau

Hello, my name is Rick Soileau. I am an artist and art instructor based in Pollock, Louisiana. I create works depicting a wide variety of subjects and sometimes thematic bodies of work. I have work in private collections, produce commission work and offer Digital Prints of many of my original pieces. Throughout my career I have experimented with several mediums such as pen & ink, acrylics, oils, charcoal and watercolor. Most recently I have been working with alkyd oils. Over my career I have taught traditional art and I spent five years teaching animation. I have done some three dimensional work and look forward to developing my welding skills as I continue learning various techniques for producing sculptures. I love to explore the countryside along the roadways of my home state, Louisiana. My paintings focus on various scenes that have caught my attention as I travel through the beautiful natural environment that makes Louisiana so wonderful. I enjoy stopping to look at old buildings or just sit by our bayous to sketch. I am fascinated by the culture of our state and love the cultural diversity that makes Louisiana so special. Pen and ink has been one of my favorite mediums since high school. I have created several pieces using pen & ink. Often I will work in pen & ink and then use watercolor to add color and life to a piece. These are some of my favorite pieces. During the Covid Pandemic we were all struggling to make sense of everything that was happening in the world around us. I have been fortunate enough to teach art for the past 40 years. I have enjoyed being a high school art teacher for the past 16 years and one of the classes that I teach is AP Studio. The students in this class work to create a portfolio of work that focuses on a theme. I created a portfolio of work during that time to show the many faces of the Pandemic throughout the world. I embrace each day as a new opportunity to learn and to explore the world around me. I hope you will follow along with me as I continue my artistic journey. I hope you enjoy looking through my work and hope visual experience brings joy and beauty into your life.
