Regina Williams is a 25 year old poet from Shreveport, Louisiana. She has authored three books, "The Words I Planted in Persephone's Garden", "To Love While Black is to Riot", and "Read This Like a Eulogy". Williams has actively engaged in literary arts since age 10, and plans to continue on into her silver and golden years.
Williams has an Associate of Arts in Performing Arts and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. She uses her magnetic personality, bubbling words, and knowledge of mental health to create poems that are both stunning, educational, and relatable.
Concepts such as racial injustice, romance, anxiety/fear, heartbreak, self-doubt, self-confidence, and more appear diversely in Williams' work. No two poems are alike, as they all have their own stories to tell and points to get across. By using a myriad of topics, Williams aims to engage with her reader on an emotional level, finding that everyone can relate to at least one of the above subjects.
In her poetry, Williams will often subvert traditional grammar and spelling rules for the sake of a more simplistic, down-to-earth style of writing. To emphasize the importance of certain words or phrases, only key words are given capital letters. Grammatically, Williams may opt for Ebonics and slang in her work, which accentuates the storyline of her poetry and assists in world building.
Artist Statement: Poetry is not a choice. We bleed poetry, we sigh poetry, we live poetry. It is inherently human and divine.
