Kristi Self

A fluid artist specializes in creating abstract artworks using fluid art techniques, where paints are poured, swirled, and manipulated on a canvas or other surface to create mesmerizing, dynamic patterns and compositions. This art form often involves using acrylic paints mixed with a pouring medium, allowing the colors to flow and interact in unique ways. Fluid artists may also incorporate various tools and techniques, such as blow dryers, palette knives, or even their hands, to guide the paint and achieve desired effects. The results are often vibrant, organic, and one-of-a-kind, making fluid art a captivating and expressive medium.

Artist Statement: My artistic journey is a vivid exploration of color, movement, and spontaneity, brought to life through the mesmerizing technique of pour painting, also known as fluid art. This medium allows me to create works that are not only visually striking but also deeply intuitive, reflecting the ever-changing nature of emotions and the world around us. In my work, I embrace the unpredictability of fluid dynamics, guiding and responding to the flow of paint as it interacts on the canvas. Each piece is a unique dialogue between control and chaos, where colors merge, collide, and transform, creating intricate patterns and textures that evoke a sense of wonder and discovery. The organic forms and marbled swirls in my art are inspired by the beauty of nature—from the delicate veining in marble to the vast, swirling galaxies. My aim is to capture the essence of these natural phenomena, inviting viewers to lose themselves in the abstract landscapes and find their own meanings and connections. Through fluid art, I seek to express the fluidity of human experience and the endless possibilities that arise when we let go of control and allow creativity to flow freely. My work is a celebration of the unexpected, a testament to the beauty that emerges when we embrace the unknown.
