Nhi Ngo is a multi-media artist with a focus on needle felting. He invites the viewers to look beyond the inviting gentleness of the soft felt to observe the brutality of its creation. The process of needle felting consists of sustained, repetitive punctures of the wool with a barbed needle. In spite of the violence of their origin, these pieces maintain their tenderness.
We too can maintain our composure in navigating the often strained relationships we have to other humans with a fierce determination to remain whole. Though his work is informed by the quiet violence of loneliness and estrangement he has experienced, the process funnels that energy into something new, renewing hope with each creation. His sculptures and dolls are comprised of wool, wire armature, and sometimes polymer clay.
