I am a Peruvian-born immigrant, living in New Haven, CT. I am passionate about photography and dedicated to the empowerment and liberation of women and girls.
A struggle that started within me and with myself turned into something much bigger. In that struggle, I found my strength, my power in vulnerability, and my voice. My desire to heal, to live free and unafraid as the woman that I am sparked my travels to the autonomous indigenous Zapatista territory in Chiapas, México, where I found sisterhood among thousands of women who fight every day against violence toward women and girls.
There, in the company of thousands of women, as I listened to the broken voices and heart wrenching testimonies of hundreds of abused women, I witnessed how the stories of each one are the stories of all. These experiences not only transformed me as a survivor of sexual violence, but also affected how I view, connect and create art in my life. I use photography to create spaces where women and girls can recognize their power, beauty, greatness and resiliency while also inspiring us to think more intentionally about the ways in which we are fighting against patriarchy. My art visibilizes the global struggle of women and envisions a world free of violence towards women and children.
