Marci Gatlin Hicks

Marci Gatlin Hicks is a visual artist and graphic designer. She holds a degree in Graphic Arts from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, LA, where she began to develop her distinctive artistic style. Over the years, she has refined this style into one that is instantly recognizable. A few years ago, Marci realized that her initial black-and-white images were perfect for coloring books. She has since published six coloring books, with a seventh in progress. You can find these along with Marci's other works in her shop on ETSY.com/shop/jobeancreative. In addition to her visual art, Marci has worked in the graphic design field in package and label design since 1995. Today she specializes in labels and marketing materials for the motor oil industry. Marci has showcased her work in several Critical Mass shows at the Shreveport Regional Arts Council and in juried group exhibits through the Bossier Arts Council and The Agora Borealis. In 2015, she held a solo exhibition at Lilah’s Bakery in Shreveport, LA. In 2019, Marci was the featured artist and graphic designer for the Highland Jazz and Blues Festival, where she designed the festival posters, T-shirts, and all related graphics. In 2019, Marci was commissioned by the Louisiana State Exhibit Museum to create new content for a LSEM coloring book. In addition to her artistic endeavors, Marci teaches classes for the Shreve Memorial Library System and offers private lessons for art clubs and individual students. She is proficient in both illustration and graphic design and founded her own artistic business, Jobean Creative, in 2010.

Artist Statement: Hello, I’m Marci Gatlin Hicks, and my journey as an artist began as soon as I could hold a crayon. My passion for art has been a lifelong pursuit, and today, my creations are primarily hand-drawn using Papermate Flair black felt-tip pens. Occasionally, I venture into digital design, watercolor, mixed media and acrylic painting. I bring my original drawings to life with Copic markers, colored pencils, or pastels and on occasion I design digitally. Before adding the ink to my designs, each original hand-drawn image is scanned and transformed into a coloring page to be included in a future Jobean Creative coloring book. My work is known for its vibrant, playful designs, rich in patterns and shapes that harmonize to create visually pleasing compositions. I also work as a graphic artist creating logo designs, invitations and t-shirt designs along with fun word art that I sell as prints and notecards, along with labels, packaging, and marketing materials for the motor oil industry. Art brings me immense joy, and my goal is to share that happiness with everyone who views or purchases my work.
