Lisa Renee Perkins

Lisa Renee, born a southern girl, and proudly raised a military brat. Now an evocative artist based in Bossier City, Louisiana. Painting is a very spiritual process for her. Having no formal art training, she seeks her own distinctive forms of inspiration. Lisa is a member of the American Portrait Society, the Shreveport Pastel Society and Bossier Arts Council. She has participated in shows internationally, nationally and locally. Her portraits have been displayed at the Jeffersonian Institute at the Smithsonian in Washington DC, for a special show called 'This Skin I’m In', winning Honorable mentions. After a 10-year interlude, she is reinventing her passion for art, which includes new mediums and different genres. Currently using photography, acrylic paints, Wax/Oil mediums and pastels for portraiture.

Artist Statement: My works are impressionistic realism, I like it skillfully messy, but then sometimes so close to realistic. I like to walk the line between these two genres. Using expressive marks, I yield to my spiritual side now. I’m inspired by the world around me and usually it’s the subtle things that attract my attention. A candid moment unexpectedly captured, a texture in the cement I’m walking on, the movement of a color flow… it’s amazing to me, how minute details can be captured and expounded on to develop into an exciting piece on the canvas. My process begins with a visual inspiration in my imagination, a location, a phrase in a song or a word in scripture that inspires me to dig deeper into creativity. Sometimes I’m influenced by a color palette or a geometric shape, or an image in my mind. Then there are times that it’s a candid shot, accidentally captured without frame or purpose that can evolve into something beautiful. I use acrylic paints, a mixture of oils and wax, and pastels for portraits. In abstracts I like to start with a foundation of color and texture, sometimes I’m adding paint and sometimes I’m scraping away for the desired texture and composition. Like an archeological dig unearthing portions of a past moment in time. Illuminating as little or as much as needs to be revealed to complete the composition. Going over each piece laying down a foundation of colors and textures. When it comes to portraits, that’s where I look for those candid moments, looking to forever capture the intimacy in time, destined to become an heirloom work of art. We were created by a Creator who created us to create! I believe anointing and Healing flows through what we touch and create, and I’m tasked to pursue my passion for all things creative.
