Lucia is passionate about bringing manga-inspired portraits to life, blending fantasy and surrealism with traditional and non-traditional mediums.
Growing up in an immigrant family, manga was more than just entertainment—it was her escape and inspiration, sparking a lifelong love for drawing. Her artistic journey took her from a career in graphic design and illustration in Hong Kong to fine art studies in Canada before she moved to the U.S. in 2009.
Since 2016, she has nurtured young talent as a teacher in the Talented Art Program in Bossier City, later earning her Master’s in Art Education from Boston University in 2022.
In her recent work, Lucia pushes the boundaries of traditional mediums, blending organic and conventional materials to create rich, textural compositions. She incorporates dried flowers, beeswax, and mica powder with oil paint, allowing her art to take on a layered, tactile quality. This experimental approach not only expands her artistic expression but also mirrors her immigrant experience, weaving together memories of Asia with her life in Louisiana. Through this evolving process, she challenges the limits of her materials while exploring themes of transformation, resilience, and identity—central to her journey as both an immigrant and an artist.
