I am an artist and educator, specializing in acrylic painting and 2D mixed media. Themes that heavily feature in my work are gender, identity and use of symbolism as means to connect our collective human experience. In 2021, I completed my MA thesis which examined the relationship between illustration, "fine art" and literary text. I believe that creating art is an essential part of the human experience, and my work reflects personal explorations of identity. Labels like “immigrant,” “feminist,” and “queer” have shaped my life and art, broadening my perspective to embrace a range of viewpoints and intersectional themes. My early inspirations came from the surreal compositions of artists like Frida Kahlo and Lee Miller, as well as the bold expressionism of Jean-Michel Basquiat and Jean Dubuffet. I am also influenced by music, and find the poetry and melody of songs to be a powerful catalyst for visual expression.
With nearly a decade of experience as a Visual Art instructor, I have expanded my artistic practice beyond acrylic painting to include new mediums. My current work is primarily multimedia, incorporating macro photography, text, and literary references to create rich, multi-layered compositions full of color, texture, and symbolism. Through my art, I seek to prompt viewers to reflect on and explore ideas that are both universal and personally meaningful.
