Kourtney Zimmerman

Always making new things - stay inspired! My name is Kourtney Zimmerman and I am a Creative Director out of Louisiana who has a very strong passion for my hobby of painting and paint-making. Starting out with oils at University, I found that they weren’t my cup of tea and quickly found acrylics shortly after graduating. Using this new medium, I would paint scenes from Studio Ghibli films and sell prints here and there. As fads with new materials start on instagram, I quickly become curious and want to try everything! So when gouache started showing on my feed, I knew what I needed to do. Luckily there is a great local art store (Mo’s Art Supplies) that carries everything the larger chain stores don’t. I was able to try out a few brands and styles of gouache (there are two types) and fell in love immediately. Over the next year or so, I created probably around a hundred paintings and needed something to do with all of them. At the urging of a friend (you know who you are), I joined the Mid City Makers Market and became an art vendor in the Baton Rouge area. It has been a blast! I’ve met so many wonderful and supportive people along the way and felt the love from my friends and family as well. After painting with gouache for so long, I wanted to try the next step, watercolors. This was the scariest part for me as I hadn’t tried them since getting those really poor quality tubes in paint kits when I was a kid. And boy did I hate it back then! It didn’t make sense to me. Paint was supposed to be opaque and easy to control and make these bright colors but I couldn’t do it properly to save my life. Back to present day, I found several you-tubers who make phenomenal content and made me really want to give this new medium a try. Lo and behold, I LOVE THEM. I love watercolor so very very much. It’s crazy how starting with gouache really helped me to love the qualities in watercolor that I hated so much when I was a kid. The next step after falling in love with this medium was to jump in head first and MAKE the medium. The process and creation of the paint is so calming. I truly enjoy every step and use every skill to bring you all the most top quality watercolors I possibly can! If you’ve made it this far, I want to thank you again for taking the time to like and support my work. I hope you enjoy taking this journey with me! -Sincerely, Kourtney
