Kristi Woodard

A Shreveport native, I've been in media most of my life. I was a student journalist in high school (K-BYRD), and went on to major in Mass Communication (Broadcast Journalism) in college. After obtaining my Bachelor of Arts from LSU (2001), I moved back to Shreveport, and put my degree to work, first as a TV News Producer (Morning Show at KTBS and KSLA, Weekend at KTAL) and later as a Producer in radio (of the Quenn Echols Morning Show). After leaving corporate media, I branched out on my own -- building my brand, Mahogani Media. Through my freelance work, since 2010, I have focused on providing photography, videography and creative consulting services. My creative flair and attention to the business side of the arts, gained me the moniker “Media Diva”. Even with all my professional and independent media success, I still had dreams yet unfulfilled. I'd secretly dreamed of working in the film industry since I was 14, when I saw Spike Lee's "Malcolm X" film. The film not only ignited my passion to become a filmmaker but made me a lifelong fan and follower of Spike Lee (my film idol). My passion for filmmaking remained dormant until I was able to gain experience on the sets of independent and feature films, when the industry set up shop in Shreveport, after Hurricane Katrina. My first gig was as a Production Assistant on the film “Welcome Home, Roscoe Jenkins” (2008). From there, I was able to get work on more film sets and learn more about the industry first-hand. In 2014, eager to enhance my creativity and expand my production knowledge, I decided to pursue my MFA, and relocated to the East Coast (Newark, NJ). The new scenery gave me a new network of creative peers and inspired me to write my first short film, Siren Song (2015), which served as my directorial debut. Since then, I've written and directed over a dozen short films. I obtained my MFA in Motion Pictures & Television (Focus: Directing) from Academy of Art University in 2018. Family obligations have brought me back to Shreveport, but I still travel when I can. I still provide services as Mahogani Media, while building my resume and credits as a crew member for both indie and major productions on sets in Shreveport. I also work on my own productions, the latest of which is my award-winning web series, #Situationships: The Web Series (2021).
