Artist Statement: I use archival methods and landscapes of the American South and Midwest as archival / memory tools. Using a Hiberno-English (Irish B-1) in my poetry, I reference the diasporas of Southern Irish folklores and tall tales. I interrogate systems of information, categorization, and gender to create poems that are curious, queer, and joyful. To quote Imposter Review in their forward to my poem, "I'm Sad in Dallas," : 'every poem of McCarty's is summer' (Mira Cameron). I've taught creative writing for The Center for Fiction, Index Space, and more. My teaching style is conversational and lecture-focused, with an emphasis on archived reading materials and group peer review.
