Jean Hartzog

JEAN HARTZOG is a Theatre Arts, Communications, and Secondary Education Graduate from University of Minnesota in Morris, Minnesota and was one chapter short of the completion of her thesis for her Master's Degree in Communications at Colorado State University when the theatre and a good looking guy lured her away from her studies. She also attended nurses training with her Mother Rosie who suggested that if she wanted to "do the theatre", she needed something to fall back on. Counseling classes at the University of Louisiana at Monroe and certifications in Prevention and Tobacco Treatment led her to her current position as a Social Service Counselor 4A with Northeast Delta Human Service Authority. From running a shelter for kids (Christopher House) of which she currently serves as Secretary of the Board of directors, and ten years as Executive Director of a Non-Profit that served Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities, she lives to help people. Married to Jerry, who owns and operates, Carpet Care Cleaning and Restoration, she has three children, all of which are employed by the family owned business. She is very proud of her son-in-law, daughters in law, as well as grandkids Hailey, Josephine (Josie), Allison (Allie), Warren, & Presley Jean. They take top billing. The Strauss Theatre was the first stop when moving to Monroe and one of her dear friends owns CA Studios, therefore she has had an outlet for her love of acting, with the following being some of her favorite roles: Bella in Lost in Yonkers, The Wicked Witch of the West in The Wizard of Oz, Madame Armfeldt in A Little Night Music, Maria in The Sound of Music, Sister Mary Lazarus in Sister Act, Annie in Misery, and Ms. Havisham in Great Expectations. Retiring on June 2nd she is looking forward to returning to Dawson, Minnesota (Gnometown USA (Google it) to help unveil two renditions of her sisters likeness as a Gnome, since she has been chosen as the Gnome to be recognized as being special to her community. Jean wrote her gnome story and will also be attending her 50th High School Reunion. The arts are a big deal in her hometown, which is why she loves to go back where folks, like her sister, are recognized for being kind and helpful. Look for an upcoming singing telegram service like the one she worked for in Colorado. It will bring joy.
