Dyra Turner

Dyra Turner is a Shreveport, Louisiana-based artist whose lifelong passion for art led her to pursue a degree in Fine and Graphic Arts from Northwestern State University, which she earned in 2023. Dyra's work is a personal exploration of self-expression and connection, inviting viewers to find reflections of themselves within her pieces. Her senior exhibit in December 2023 proved to be a transformative experience, pushing Dyra to new creative heights and unlocking previously unimagined abilities and perspectives. This pivotal moment allowed her to delve deeper into her artistic practice, discovering innovative ways to express her thoughts and emotions through her art. Dyra draws inspiration from the ethereal, particularly the magical worlds depicted in shows like Winx Club and various anime. These fantastical elements have profoundly shaped her creative vision, encouraging her to explore themes of transformation, magic, and the boundless possibilities of the imagination. Primarily working with oil paint and glass art, Dyra creates intricate glass mosaics that explore the interplay of opacity and translucence. These materials serve as a medium for expressing complex ideas about the self, personal growth, and the ethereal. Through her art, Dyra invites viewers to pause and reflect on their own experiences, offering a visual language that bridges the personal and the universal. Her ultimate goal is to create art that not only reflects her own journey but also resonates with the shared human experience, fostering a deeper sense of empathy and connection.

Artist Statement: My work is driven by a desire to create pieces that go beyond words, using color, form, and composition to express emotions and experiences that cannot always be conveyed through language. I strive to craft tasteful and ethereal works that reflect both my personal journey and universal themes that others can relate to. Through my art, I aim to offer a space for reflection and connection, inviting viewers to find resonance in the colors, textures, and situations I portray. Ultimately, I hope my work provides a sense of understanding and comfort to others, speaking to the shared human experience through visual storytelling.
