Nature, in some form, has always been the subject of my art. I have spent much of my life outdoors exploring, observing and interacting with nature. These interactions with nature have enriched my life physically, spiritually and psychologically. My love of exploring just to see what lies ahead; the rhythm of walking and breathing; the sound of wind and water; the feel of the earth beneath my feet; the smell of leaf mold and flowers; and glimpses of insects, birds and animals become a part of my work. In my studio work, I explore color as a subjective element. I begin with color and let the energy of the work lead me to the final resolution. Recently, I have begun to address plastic pollution in my paintings by including bits of recycled plastic. I have also explored this idea with sculpture that interrupts the natural process of decomposition by encasing objects from nature in plastic. Works done en plein air are a way to experience the outdoors and gather information. I believe we are meant live responsibly, to protect and preserve the world in which we live. Nature is a way to connect with something basic and enduring, but always changing. I want my art to be a place for people to share a common experience regardless of their differences. www.donnafmcgeefineart.com
