Luredena Moses

"Luredena Moses is a 30 year old disabled resident of shreveport, louisiana . Born in Lakeland Florida and raised by her grandmother, luredena has always has a home for creative endeavors in her heart. She attended two performing arts schools growing up . One in shreveport, louisiana by the name of GreenOaks performing arts high school in the neighborhood of Cooper road USA for 9th grade and Washington Preparatory high school in south central Los Angeles , California for the second half of her ninth grade year . She studied disciplines of movement in contemporary dance as well as Theatre. She is the middle child of four siblings , daughter of late Alice Moses who also was disabled. Luredena’s work reflects being a part of many different aspects of her world, being young , african american and disabled . " I graduated from Fair Park High school in shreveport in 2011 . I was housed at the time at the late Highland Haven, a transitional living facility for women and children in unsafe living conditions in the highland neighborhood. That home was a vital part in my life where I had my first recollection of what community is about. After graduation I moved to Washington D.C. to attend Howard University majoring in Performing Arts. Later I moved to Marshal Texas and graduated from Wiley College . My story is one of resilience , bravery, long suffering , patience , forgiveness, empathy and resolve . I lost my grandmother at a young age and experienced grief like a boat without a paddle. My grandmother's passing sparked feelings that at the time couldn’t find the language but manifested into mental turmoil that gave birth to a deeper understanding of the importance of being able to convey deep, gut wrenching feelings that words can barely aid in description. Although I have a better relationship with grief, I do not have the fairytale life of being close with blood relatives, which im starting to see an uprising in people separating from blood relatives. Experiencing homelessness while carrying multiple invisible illnesses like sickle cell anemia and depression, I was starting to see how important COMMUNITY is. Out of all the words in the world this by far is my favorite word. These cards that I was dealt have been worth the while due to our human clutch to cultivate community in times of human despair . That’s my story .
