Originally from Washington, D.C., my family moved to the South in search of the "oil industry". After living in Houston and New Orleans, we moved to Berwick, LA , a small town at the mouth of the Atchafalaya River. It was there that I became inspired by the rich cultural and natural environment of French Louisiana.. The natural world remains the inspiration for my work. I have been working as an artist/designer/educator since the early 80's. After receiving an M.F.A. in Sculpture/Painting from the University of Colorado at Boulder and returning to Louisiana, I began my career in the arts as Public Information Officer for the Acadiana Arts Council and later served as Artist in Residence for Lafayette Parish School System. Educationally, I have conducted multiple teacher inservice and training workshops, worked with a variety of community organizations to produce performance props, public art works, and effects for special events. In 1997, I was honored with the prestigious Acadiana Arts Award for outstanding contributions to the arts in Acadiana. In my latest educational assignment for LPSS, I served as a Visual Arts Teacher for SPED, Gifted and Talented.
In my design practice, I have specialized in site specific art works, stage and costume design, concept development and copywriting for educational, private and entertainment entities. My fine art has of late been focused on a series of abstract landscape paintings and revisiting the form I designed for the Pelicans on Parade public art initiative as well as a series of ceramic vessels inspired by exotic beasts.
