David P. Hooper is a self-taught multidisciplinary artist from Northwest Louisiana. His work, spanning photography, print-making, pattern-making, painting, digital art, and typography, incorporates bold geometric designs, intricate textures, and vibrant color palettes. Grounded in a deep appreciation for both historical and digital techniques and traditions, his practice fuses meticulous design with intuitive experimentation. Through the layering of vibrant colors, intricate linework, and dynamic compositions, Hooper seeks to evoke a sense of harmony within complexity. His approach is both analytical and expressive—balancing precision with fluidity, structure with spontaneity. Each piece serves as a meditation on visual language, inviting the viewer to engage with the tension between order and chaos, tradition and innovation.
Artist Statement: I come from a family heritage of artists and makers who encouraged my creative expression from a very young age. To me, the joy of creativity is less in a particular medium or more in the sheer wonder of bringing something out of my head and into the world - making something from nothing, ex nihilo. Growing up as a millennial in the American South during the dot com era, I was fascinated by the rich flora, fauna, and cultural history surrounding me and also with the many emerging digital means of creation. These are continued inspirations, along with geometry, mathematics, historical reference, algorithmic processes, and procedural methods. My work emphasizes pattern, texture, and color; and explores themes of sustainability, creativity within the context of a consumeristic society, and the tension between human creativity and technological tools and intelligence.
