David Carlyle Humphreys is a professional image creator with over 45 years in the creative world. His unprecedented interpretations of the natural world have earned him the title of “Nouveau Naturalist” coined by fellow artist Lisa Qualls. My goal is to always create work that is mysterious and thought-provoking, yet approachable enough to fully engage the eyes and inspire new thinking and belief. In my work, I deconstruct our ordinary view of everyday objects like food, insects or people, and resurrect them into new works that can find themselves in even the most traditional or surprising surroundings. Each distinctive work requires methods both aged and modern-using both ways time has tested and ways that capture our thoughts today. Traditional methods of lighting and art direction combined with contemporary means in digital imagery and new media dominate my artistic production. It is in fusion of techniques that I am able to depict cherished, but everyday subjects in a way that only our imaginations can imprint them in our minds.
