Cherie Gray

Cherie’ Gray is a Shreveport native who graduated from LSU in Shreveport 2012, where she received a B.A in history and B.A communications with an emphasis in speech and theatre. She travels for film and performs across the U.S. She is a performing, visual, literary artist. She is an arts enthusiast and arts activist and arts advocate. Cherie’s appreciation for the arts began as a young three years old. Cherie is the founder of Lumpy Grits Artistry, an experimental arts group based in Shreveport, La. Lumpy Grits productions include: She is currently working on developing her graduate thesis project, Race, Citizenship and the French Romantic Imagination: Blacks during the French Revolution. This has developed into a script and is currently being groomed for production. This quadrilogy is entitled,Revolution is Now! The last chapter being a historical fantasy entitled Sebastian Untold. She directed Lysistrata: Afro-Greek Comedy in 2018. She had a chance to take the cast and crew on the road in 2018 to New Orleans, Louisiana, Chicago, Illinois and Montgomery, Alabama. Her latest cultural project is the Gritonian Music and Dance Fete: Celebrating the Moves and Grooves of the Black Diaspora (2019). This impactful event educates and celebrates the different genres of dance and music throughout black communities globally. This curation traces the rhythms and drum patterns from Africa to the United States and Caribbean islands. When she is not doing theatre then she is playing up violin, singing, reading, studying languages, boxing and fencing. She is currently residing in Shreveport raising her young daughter Chai who is also pursuing a career in film, live performance and visual arts! She thanks her community, friends and family for their love and support. Recent film performances include Kila’Delphia (2020) Stage play understudy of Shawakatima and background actress. She also appears in the webisode of Situationships (2021) in the role of Kaleatha. Background film work includes Just Between Us Girls (2022). Forbidden Daughter 2022). Cherie is also active in her local community when it comes to social justice and equity. As a performing artist, she goes by the name Cherie G. The Prototype. She has created video projects that express concerns in her latest piece entitled, How Dare You! This reflected her attitudes towards the Ahmaud Arbery case. Cherie was recently in 3 out of 10 episodes of Inside the Black Box on Crackle 2022 plus TV co-hosted by Joe Morton and Tracy Moore. She performed in the Atlanta Black Theatre Festival 2021 in the stage readings, Introducing Nathaniel Young as the role of Death. Cherie is currently working on personal projects of historical monologues, poetry, songs and gearing up for her documentary Ratchet City Blues: The Music Documentary. Coming in 2023.
