Caroline Helm Huval

I did not believe I had a creative bone in my body until I was 27 years old. I longed for it, envied it; yet, I did not know it was within me until I was displaced from Hurricane Katrina in 2005 where I began to take singing lessons and wrote my first song out of a deep need to express what I was going through. From there, the floodgates opened and no one, not even the deepest critic inside of me was going to tell me what I could and could not do. Not long after returning to Lafayette, I began what was to become an internationally touring band, The Figs. I called together five other girls who I knew could sing but did not play music. We worked really hard for months and ended up with two cds and an eight year musical career. In 2008, I produced a successful variety show that ran ten times called The Nue Moon Revue. I was the emcee, producer, jingle writer and performer; I showcased sixty songwriters over five years and several went on to produce their own songwriting records. When I was thirty, I decided to give theater a shot. I auditioned for a musical that ended up touring to New York and from there, I acted in several shows, attended a Meisner and Playwriting class in NYC and acted in a full length film called You’re in Charge along with a few other short films. In my professional life, I am a mental health therapist and speaker. I bring creativity and fun to my practice and I also bring mental health into my creative endeavors. My gift and favorite thing to do is to gather quality artists to create something more than I could have done alone. I have also spearheaded a platform for citizens in my community to find mental health therapists who would be a good fit for them. I interview therapists "live" on Instagram to discuss their expertise and interests.
