From an early age, I was fascinated by the prospects of travel to fantastic and alien landscapes. As an avid reader of Science Fiction and Fantasy, my artistic imagination was fueled by ideas of transformation and transport to exotic locations. Because these visions mostly involved dinosaurs, this also inspired in me a love of Science and wonder with the natural world. Growing up in Lafayette, Louisiana afforded me with frequent opportunities to visit the Lafayette Natural History Museum & Planetarium and the LSU Natural History Museum during elementary school field trips. There I was amazed and intrigued by the experiential exhibits of science and nature themes. Later as an adult one of my favorite jobs was a production artist for a museum exhibit fabricator. I learned practical skills of design and construction methods for durable, hands-on installations for science and children’s exhibits. It was also where I got my first behind-the-scenes exposure to interactive technology and experiential lighting design. It was a perfect opportunity to combine my interests in art, education, and technology! Since then I have worked in a wide variety of fields, always with some aspect of art, technology and education. While not always working as a full-time artist, I have continued to participate in art for both personal enjoyment and public (community) enrichment. Whether it is transforming a fiberglass pelican statue into a crawfish (Pelicans on Parade, Lafayette, LA), or a hospital hallway into an underwater adventure (Women & Children’s Hospital, Lafayette, LA), I always look for ways to make my creations interesting and thought-provoking. I especially like to participate in public art and educational programs where there is a wide exposure and interaction with people who may not normally view art as an every-day feature of their lives.
