Matt Beshears was raised in Southeast Texas where he loved to draw as a child. Upon attending Southern Methodist University, Beshears renewed his passion for art, ultimately earning a BFA with a Studio Art minor.
After a 30+ year career in business, Beshears restarted his art practice. He began experimenting with toner transfers, finding this medium an interesting way to express his ideas. Beshears has explored themes such as fear, Gulf Coast life, Greek Mythology, and Aesopica using this method. The work could easily be described as Surreal, with unusual pairings of images in the digital collages created in the initial steps of the toner transfer process. In addition to the toner transfer work, Beshears is also an active oil painter and printmaker.
Beshears resides in Baton Rouge where he is the Director for Gallery 46 and the Art Learning Center, part of Mid-City Artisans. He enjoys teaching art to adults and children.
