Ashunte’ Jones, Eris Gallery owner, was born in Shreveport, LA in 1996 to highschool sweethearts Latoya and Christopher Larry. Having grown up on Cooper Road, a rural MLK area, her journey of self expression took many forms. Throughout her life, Ashunte has had many passions but naturally she was drawn to art. The interest was cultivated during her teenage years and blossomed as she attended Louisiana State University to obtain a Bachelors of Science in Biology.
After completing her degree, Ashunte delved further into her gift and established herself as a mixed media artist. She uses colored pencils, markers, graphite, pastels, and watercolor to give a partial narrative of her environment, her self reflection, and her declaration.
Artist Statement: The greatest inspiration is found in self-complexity. The great paradox is, no matter how complex the human psyche is, each individual has experienced the same emotions. We all feel anger, grief, and disappointment. We all identify with bliss, fear, and longing. Through my work, I share how these emotions can be expressed and take on many different faces. There is a curious beauty in discovering and understanding Self, which is an intricately woven tapestry of mise-en-scène, reflection, and declaration. Multifaceted individuals require multifaceted outlets, which I strive to cultivate within myself.
