Ashley Aisyah Hamel is an Indonesian-American singer-songwriter, actor, and teaching artist from Connecticut.
A charismatic performer with an improv comedy and theater background, Hamel's live shows have been described as a "conversation". Her versatile acoustic pop songs are powered by deft finger-picking, strong rhythm guitar, and an undeniably powerful voice.
Ashley grew up singing the songs of Celine Dion, Sarah McLaughlin, and The Cranberries, in addition to the entire Disney song catalogue. At age 15, she picked up the acoustic guitar in order to write her own stories. After a university detour, she committed to her musical endeavors in 2014 with the release of "By the Window", a collection of intimate diary-songs. A great lover of books and an active member of the "wizard rock" Harry Potter fandom, she released her first full-length album, "W.Z.R.D." in 2019.
Now in residency in Jakarta's thriving independent music scene, Ashley is recording a new album with Indonesian collaborators that aims to break barriers and introduce her take on American indie folk to new international audiences. The singles "Keluarga" and "New England Baby" speak to her journey across the globe.
