Kenya Mitchell

Kenya Mitchell is a St. Louis based artist and Webster University graduate whose multidisciplinary work—spanning printmaking, painting, textiles, and digital media—draws from personal experience, faith, identity, and the cultural richness of her community. Her practice invites reflection on life’s complexities, encouraging viewers to move beyond surface understanding and find meaning in everyday moments. While her work often features herself and people she loves, it is less about self-portraiture and more about nostalgia, healing, and the shared human journey. These visual narratives—sometimes rendered in stark black and white, vivid color, or shadowed tones—are layered explorations of memory and emotion that resonate beyond the individual image. Each piece is more than the sum of its parts, inviting viewers to find fragments of their own story within. Rooted in narrative and driven by purpose, Mitchell’s work uplifts overlooked stories and celebrates resilience. She views art as both a form of prayer and a tool for dialogue—fostering connection, community, and deeper understanding. As an advocate for the arts, she is committed to giving back through teaching and mentorship, while creating technically skilled, visually compelling work that inspires. Her work has been exhibited at Red Gate Gallery, The Luminary, TechArtista, Art St. Louis, St. Louis Artists Guild, Angad Arts Hotel, Arcade Contemporary Art Gallery, Soulard Art Gallery, Urb Arts, Cherokee Print Bazaar, and more. She was a 2023 Gyo Obata Fellow with the Regional Arts Commission and currently serves as a studio member and teaching artist at Central Print.
